Either way, these Debra Weitzner socks come in a pack of six pairs for less than $25. Maybe you're looking for a bargain, or maybe you're the type of person who goes through socks very quickly. These thermal socks use different combinations of the aforementioned materials, but they've all got one thing in common: They're highly rated and effective when it comes to keeping your feet warm, dry, and comfortable. The higher percentage of spandex, Lycra, or elastane, the stretchier your socks will be - a little can be great, but it's not always the best thing for heat-retention.

They're also usually durable and moisture-wicking (especially when compared to cotton). Polyester/Nylon: Since these plastic-derived materials are synthetic, they're really inexpensive to manufacture. It's not the most insulating or quick-drying fabric on its own, but certain weaving techniques help it to retain heat and dryness much more effectively. Cotton: Cotton is typically affordable, skin-friendly, versatile, and easy to care for. It's also relatively absorbent, thick, and warm. Acrylic: Acrylic is considered a great wool alternative because it mimics wool in its feel and appearance, but it's synthetic to reduce costs and prevent irritation. That said, some people do have wool allergies or sensitivities - or just prefer animal-free alternatives - so if that's you, you can opt for synthetic materials instead. It's super warm, but still breathable and moisture-wicking, so it's great for cold-weather activities that might cause you to sweat. Wool: This natural fiber derived from sheep's fleece is one of the best insulators.

These are some of the most commonly used materials when it comes to thermal socks: Like any sock, you'll want to consider the length and material before you buy - all factors that depend on your personal needs and preferences - but for warmth-retaining socks specifically, material composition is extremely important. Luckily, the best thermal socks ensure that yours stay especially warm without much effort.

Skin temp is a screening tool, not a diagnostic one.Feet can get overlooked when shopping for a cold-weather wardrobe, but they make such a huge impact on how cozy you feel. Sensor accuracy/reliability in a workout setting ( both types of sensors) is probably a bit iffy, and so a higher sampling frequency ( I would suggest a variable frequency similar to the heart rate sensor) wouldn’t provide further insight into workout activities-thus, a reasonable compromise given that all sensors are rendered pointless while the Watch is taking a break on its charger! In this context, twice an hour is acceptable but not impressive.

My fear was that the saturation sensor (and the rumored skin temperature sensor) would require manual activation, similar to the ECG. In hindsight, I should have used something other than “ continuously”, as this would only be meaningful in a hospital setting ( happens when you can’t separate off-duty activities from your clinical research ?).

Thank you very much for confirming my hope/understanding ( almost, anyway) of the saturation sensor in the series 6 Watch ? Skin temp is a screening tool, not a diagnostic one. "Screening tool" is the concept I was looking for and not expressing well. Skin temperature is a screening tool and it is therefore relevant. Skin temperature is obviously not uninteresting, but medically speaking, measurement of other than core temperature directly, is only valid as a screening tool and clinical decisions should be based on core temperature. the enormous health care value of Watch is the non-stop monitoring of reliable data (which is another reason why all-day-battery is important). I agree this could prove to be interesting.Īs I understand it, the oxygen saturation sensor in Watch series 6 can be set to monitor continuously-I hope the temperature sensor will be implemented in a similar manner.

I imagine it's still doable, otherwise those skin temp sensors that even doctors are using now on kids and such would be pointless. Skin surface temperature is less indicative of a problem than temperatures taken internally. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out.
